Santiago de Chile Cajón del Maipo, Hot Springs, Waterfall Chilean BBQ

About this experience

We will start at 3 pm and then enter in to the middle of the Andes Mountains range, we will witness the majestic sunset it offers. We will pass through the Cajón del Maipo valley, following the Maipo River, and travel through various unique villages until we reach the famous Chocolate House. After admiring its marvellous architecture, we will head to the Velo de la Novia Waterfall, where you can appreciate the power of the water and take photos!

Next, we will explore the natural Colina hot springs. These medicinal waters range in temperature from 55°C to 30°C across seven pools. You can relax in the hot waters that flow from the volcano.
We will enjoy the sunset from a viewpoint overlooking the volcano and the towering peaks of the Andes, followed by a traditional Chilean barbecue paired with wines from central and southern Chile.
The barbecue includes a four-course menu.

To conclude our evening, we will marvel at the starry skies offered by the Andes Mountains.

Planning perspective

How I’d plan this experience

I’d choose this for an unhurried Andes evening rather than a quick scenic outing: it layers a waterfall stop, geothermal soaking, sunset, a substantial barbecue and stargazing into one long trip from Santiago. The appeal is the change of mood as daylight fades, but you should treat it as a full-day commitment with mountain weather and late-night energy very much part of the proposition.

Who this long mountain evening suits

I think this is strongest for couples, friends and food-minded travellers who want the Andes to feel like an occasion rather than simply a photo stop. The combination of seven naturally heated pools, a four-course Chilean barbecue and wine makes the experience especially suited to people happy to slow down and linger after the sightseeing.

It is less compelling if your priority is a demanding hike, a private wilderness experience or an early night. The shared tour can have up to 24 travellers, and the itinerary is built around several short experiences rather than one deep exploration. I’d also take the health guidance seriously: despite the stated easy fitness level, this is not recommended for children, pregnancy, spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.

Choose the seasonal version for the rhythm you want

There are distinct summer and winter options, so I’d select by season rather than assume the day follows one fixed format. Summer is listed as an 11-hour, 3 pm–1 am outing with a 4x4 Jeep, while winter is listed as 10 hours with an SUV. That makes the summer version the more natural fit if the late sunset, barbecue and star-filled finish are central to why you are going.

The core timing also deserves attention: pickup is usually set between 2 and 3 pm, and the published overall duration is 10 hours. Keep the following morning light if you can; the payoff is an evening in the mountains, not a tour designed to leave you fresh for an early start.

Make the hot springs the centrepiece, not an afterthought

My advice is to go if soaking outdoors in a dramatic setting genuinely appeals to you. The hot springs are the part that turns this from a valley drive into a restorative evening, while the waterfall, Chocolate House and viewpoint give the route variety. Build your expectations around a sequence of scenic pauses, rather than extended time at every stop.

Conditions can alter the feel considerably. Cold and wind were a real factor for some travellers at the pools, even though the hot water made the experience worthwhile. I’d bring what you need to be comfortable before and after bathing, and regard the sunset and stars as weather-dependent bonuses rather than guarantees.

Allow for weather uncertainty and late confirmation

A genuine trade-off here is that mountain conditions can affect the plan. The cancellation terms allow cancellation for bad weather or insufficient travellers, so I’d avoid making this the immovable centrepiece of a tightly scheduled Santiago stay. Keep a backup evening in mind and do not build onward travel or an early excursion immediately around it.

Pickup timing is confirmed the day before, which is sensible to leave room for. At the same time, traveller feedback includes repeated concerns about delayed or absent communication around cancellations and pickup details. I think the experience is worth considering for its scenery, pools and meal, but only if you are comfortable with some operational uncertainty in exchange for a weather-sensitive mountain outing.
